SIOW Music is working with Artswork to offer an exciting new role within the South Coast Music Partnership: a Breakthrough Traineeship as a Signposting & Youth Governance Worker!

Breakthrough is a 6‑month employability programme designed as a stepping stone to get young people aged 18–25 workplace experience and all-important employment skills. This role includes:

1. Signposting — sharing music-making opportunities, resources and training with schools and families through SCMP’s website and social media channels.

2. Youth Governance — working to set up new youth-led consultations and governance systems that make SCMP more inclusive, representative and responsive to the needs, interests and ambitions of children and young people.

3. Cultural Education Partnerships — helping children and young people find and move between cultural and creative opportunities and support.

Young Sounds UK: Paid opportunity for 18-25 year old mentor 

We are recruiting for an 18-25 year old Mentor to support our Young Sounds UK Connect programme. 

About the Role 

Musical potential is everywhere but opportunity isn’t: financial and social obstacles too often get in the way. Connect aims to effect significant change in how the musical potential of young people from low-income families is identified and supported.

You will play a central role in supporting the Connector on the day-to-day planning and delivery of the Connect programme in your Hub. You will agree specific areas of work as per need and capacity. You will also be a highly visible contact for the families and young people accessing Connect which will help you to foster new mentoring relationships with the young people on the programme.  

The Commitment

Isle of Wight Mentor: 

• Hours of work: 2 hours per week x 35 weeks per year for general programme support. Individual mentoring sessions with young people are offered in addition to these core hours. Sessions will be for one hour and offered on a case-by-case basis.

Southampton Mentor:

• Hours of work: 2 hours per term x 3 terms per year for Get Together event support. Individual mentoring sessions with young people are offered in addition to these core hours. Sessions will be for one hour and offered on a case-by-case basis.

Southampton and IOW Music are looking to appoint to the following positions for 1 year’s fixed term maternity cover for the academic year 2025-26.

Southampton and IOW Music Hubs are looking to recruit a talented young (18–25), BAME music artist and/or producer, who is passionate to work with younger musicians, producers and performers: helping them discover digital music genres, build musical and personal skills, and move forward towards better musical futures.

This role is part of the new ‘Digital Native Artists (DNA) Programme’ which has been funded by Art Council England.

Working across electronic dance music genres, modern rap and hip-hop genres (including grime, trap and drill) and progressive R&B and pop genres, you will help build a diverse and inclusive programme of music making and learning.

You will use your music and production skills to develop and deliver a programme of digital music resources, workshops, and events which engage with aspiring young musicians in schools and other settings across the region. The programme will enable participants to improve their musical skills, develop new personal skills, and inspire them to continue making music in the future.

This a development role, and training and support will be given to help build your teaching and learning skills, as well as mentoring and support to help you develop a wide range of professional skills for working within formal and informal education settings.

This role is a one year (48 weeks), fixed-term contract, for one day per week (6–8 hours) starting in Autumn 2020. Salary is £400 per month, £4,800 total.
