Do you play the violin, viola, cello or double bass? Would you like to make music with other young people? Then the Southampton & IOW Music’s String Extravaganza is the place for you.

The event will be at Cantell School from 1.30-3.30pm on Sunday 24 November.

This is a FREE event run with support from the Friends of Southampton Youth Orchestras (FSYO) and is open to string players who have been learning for a year up to approximately Grade 1 standard.

This free and inspiring Schools Concert offers a live orchestral experience for Key Stage 2 students and is designed to support the National Music Curriculum in Wales and England.

Aimed to inspire and increase love of music and creativity, students will be encouraged to use their voices to sing in different ranges and dynamics, clap rhythms, stamp along to different time signatures and develop an understanding of the history of music.

Fun, lively and engaging, expect popular hits and less familiar pieces from opera, film, and television, brought to life by the world class WNO Orchestra and a group of sensational soloists. The perfect opportunity to hear and enjoy live music, up close and personal, in a relaxed setting.

Alongside presenter Ruth Rosales and conductor Olivia Clarke, the music is brought to life by the world class WNO Orchestra, and a group of sensational opera singers. 

There will be plenty of opportunity for everyone to interact with the music, from dancing and clapping to singing along – all while learning about dynamics, rhythm, speed and of course, the instruments that make up an Orchestra.

Come and see Southampton Youth Brass Band perform at Southampton Port Christmas Carol Concert, co-hosted by Associated British ports and the Mission to Seafarers!

Doors open from 6:00pm for a chance to get your raffle tickets, and refreshments of tea, coffee and mince pies will be available throughout the evening.

The concert will start at 7:00 pm with a few words of thanks from the Bishop of Basingstoke, followed by Christmas carols, some festive readings and live music from choral singers Cantor Michaelis and the Southampton Youth Brass Band.

All proceeds will go towards two charities – The Mission for Seafarers and ABP's charity of the year - Young Lives vs Cancer.

Get in the Christmas mood with our Schools Christmas Concert at O2 Guildhall Southampton on 9 December.

Enjoy performances from Youth Rock Bands, Rappers & Schools of brand new songs based on well-known Christmas Stories written by Jo Downs, along with some classic Christmas hits!

There will be music inspired by tales of the Christmassaurus, Elf on the Shelf, The Grinch & Christmas Ballads.

After 2 years of absence, our ‘Supersonic Philharmonic’ summer school for orchestral musicians of grade 2-5 standard will be returning this year from 25th - 27th July at Cantell School. As part of this summer school, we will be holding a concert on Friday 27th.
